Tunisia head to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) buoyed by their performance in Morocco three years ago when they reached the quarter-finals.
The Eagles of Carthage were making just their second appearance at the 2022 edition and they qualified for the knockout stages as the best-ranked third-placed team, having failed to make it out of their group as debutants in 2008.
Their journey came to an end in the last eight under the guidance of Samir Landolsi, losing 1-0 to eventual champions South Africa, and the head coach was subsequently replaced by compatriot Kamel Saada in 2024.
The key players to watch out for in the tournament will be Mariem Houij, who enjoyed a stellar debut season with Abha Club in Saudi Arabia, scoring 16 goals in just 11 appearances following her switch from Galatasaray in 2024, as well as Sabrine Ellouzi, a versatile forward plying her trade with Excelsior Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Tunisia were drawn in Group B and will begin their WAFCON campaign against title favourites Nigeria at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on July 6 before moving over to the Pere Jego Stadium, where they are set to lock horns with Algeria on July 10 and Botswana on July 13.
