With Algeria hoping to go beyond the group stage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their history, here are three players that could play a vital role in the Fennecs’ progress at the showpiece next month.
Morgane Belkhiter
Based in France with AS Saint-Etienne, Belkiter has come a long way since her national team debut in 2018.
The 29-year-old defender has since been a regular for Algeria and will now prepare for her second WAFCON showing. Belkiter has made over 20 appearances for her nation, while her recent top flight experience with Saint-Etienne will no doubt aid the Fennecs against high quality opposition.
Marine Dafeur
Much like that of Belkiter, Dafuer’s recent success with Algeria has been highly appreciated. The Fleury left-back made her national team debut in 2023, while she boasts a top quality CV having played for clubs such as Guingamp, Lille and now Fleury.
Lina Boussaha
While the likes of Belkiter and Dafuer will be tasked with shielding the goal, Boussaha will come in as Algeria’s creative hub at the tournament. The 26-year-old played the majority of her career in France where she represented clubs such as Paris Saint Germain, Lille and Le Havre. Now with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Boussaha is known for a creativity and vision in the final third of the pitch.
