Banyana Banyana return to the scene of their 2022 triumph in July and we take a look at three players could are key to their hopes of retaining the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.

Refiloe Jane

The 32-year-old midfielder is one of the veterans of Desiree Ellis’ squad, having racked up over a century of caps for the national team since making her debut in 2012. Jane represented South Africa at the 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2022 editions of WAFCON and captained the side as they finally conquered Africa for the first time three years ago, being named in the Team of the Tournament. She returned to South Africa ahead of the 2025 season by signing for TS Galaxy Queens after spending the previous five years in Italy with AC Milan and Sassuolo.

Hildah Magaia

The 30-year-old striker has an impressive goalscoring record for her country since breaking onto the scene in 2018. Magaia wasn’t part of the squad that finished runners-up at WAFCON 2018, but she made a huge impact in Morocco four years later, bagging a match-winning brace against the Atlas Lionesses in the final to share the top scorers award with Ghizlane Chebbak and Rasheedat Ajibade after they all notched up three goals in the tournament. She is one of Banyana Banyana foreign contingent, having joined Mexican outfit Tijuana in January 2025.

Jermaine Seoposenwe

The 31-year-old forward is another Banyana Banyana centurion and will retire from international football after the African showpiece in Morocco. Seoposenwe made her South Africa debut all the way back in 2010 and has been a part of the squad for four of the last five WAFCON editions, missing out in 2014. She was also named to the Team of the Tournament after helping Ellis’ side win their maiden title in 2022, scoring against Nigeria in the group stages and Tunisia in the quarter-finals.
