Serhou Guirassy and Kalidou Koulibaly were among the best performing African stars during FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday as Borussia Dortmund and Al Hilal progressed to the quarter-finals.

Dortmund booked their ticket into the competition’s final eight this week, following a 2-1 win against Mexican League side Monterrey at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Led by Guirassy in attack, the Guinean continued his fine showing in front of goal this season after netting a first-half brace against the South American outfit.

Guirassy went into the Club World Cup with confidence in his stride after netting 21 goals in the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign.

Elsewhere, Koulibaly was at the forefront of Al-Hilal’s 4-3 win against Manchester City at the Camping World Stadium on Tuesday night.

While City dominated much of the encounter, Koulibaly put Al-Hilal ahead in the 94th minute, which was cancelled out by Phil Foden moments later. However, Al-Hilal had the last laugh as Marcos Leonardo scored the winning goal in the 112th minute.

Elsehwere, Real Madrid and Morocco star Brahim Diaz was an unused substitute during Los Blanco’s 1-0 win against Juventus in their respective Round of 16 fixture at the Hard Rock Stadium on Tuesday night.

Results:

Tuesday, 1 July

Manchester City 3-4 Al Hilal
