Three fixtures will take centre stage on matchday two of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

In Sunday’s first fixture, Senegal will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the Stade El Bachir in Mohammédia.

Kick-off is at 4pm CAT.

The Lionesses of Teranga will aim to improve on their performance at WAFCON 2022, where they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Zambia after a penalty shootout. Senegal reached the knockout stages in 2022 by finishing second in group A behind hosts Morocco. This tournament marks the nation’s third appearance at the WAFCON Finals.

After a 13 year hiatus, the Democratic Republic of the Congo have returned to the WAFCON Finals. The country has only participated in three previous editions, with their best performance coming in 1998 where the Leopardesses claimed the bronze medal. They will look to join Morocco atop group A with a victory on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s second matchup pits Nigeria against Tunisia in the opening group B game at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.

The Super Falcons are looking to return to the top and claim their 12th continental title. Nigeria could not manage a podium finish in 2022 as the Super Falcons were bested by Zambia in the third-place playoff.

The Eagles of Carthage fell to eventual champions South Africa in the quarterfinals of the tournament’s last edition. Tunisia have only participated in two prior WAFCON competitions, exiting the tournament in 2008 after failing to qualify for the knockout stage.

Kick-off is at 6pm CAT.

Algeria will battle Botswana at the Stade Père Jégo in Casablanca in the final game of the day.

In five appearances at the WAFCON finals, Algeria have never advanced past the group stage of the competition. They were last represented at the tournament in 2018 as they failed to qualify in 2022. Boasting talent from the French league, The Desert Foxes will have their eyes set on the quarterfinals.

Botswana made its WAFCON debut in 2022 and surprised the continent by advancing to the quarterfinals after finishing as the second best third-placed team. The Mares gave hosts Morocco a run for their money in the quarterfinal, but bowed out after a 2-1 loss. Judging by their previous tournament run, The Mares could cause an upset or two and emerge from group B as contenders.

Kick-off is at 9pm CAT.
