Mamelodi Sundowns are on the cusp of reaching an agreement to send Neo Maema on loan to Simba SC in Tanzania.
This is according to iDiski Times.
Siwelele FC reportedly expressed interest in signing the midfielder, but Simba were quicker to act upon learning of his availability.
The 29-year-old joined Masandawana from Royal AM in 2021, and his current contract expires at the end of the coming season. He has achieved four league titles in South Africa’s topflight with the club.
Maema struggled for game time last season, making 17 appearances for Sundowns across all competitions, including seven appearances in the Betway Premiership. He did not feature in Sundowns’ FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
Should the move go through, Maema will join fellow South African Fadlu Davids, who is the team’s head coach, in the Tanzanian capital.
Simba enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season, reaching the final of the CAF Confederations Cup but losing 3-1 on aggregate to Moroccan side RS Berkane. Domestically, the club finished second in the Tanzanian Premier League, four points behind champions Young Africans.
The move out of his home country casts doubt on Maema’s eligibility to play for South Africa in the upcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, in which participating nations may only use home-based players.
