Thursday 9 October features six matches across Africa, and all eyes will be on Algeria as they look to secure a return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014.

19h55 – Full-Time in Maputo, Mozambique 1-2 Guinea: Syli National dent Os Mambas’ runner-up hopes. The result leaves Mozambique placed third in the Group G standings – three points behind second-placed Uganda with one game left. Guinea are placed fourth – a point Mozambique.


19:54 – Full time in Francistown, Botswana 0-1 Uganda. The Cranes take a major step toward clinching second place in Group G thanks to Jude Ssemugabi’s goal early in the second half – capitalising on Mozambique’s concurrent loss to Guinea.


19:53 – Full time in Monrovia, Liberia 3-1 Namibia. The Lone Stars close to within a point of the second-placed Brave Warriors in Group H.


19:50 – Full time in Oran, Somalia 0-3 Algeria. Done and dusted at the Miloud Hafedi Stadium, as Algeria triumph and seal top spot in Group G! They have qualified for the World Cup for the fifth time, adding to 1982, 1986, 2010 and 2014.


19:48 – GOAL! Liberia 3-1 Namibia. The Brave Warriors pull one back in Monrovia, courtesy of Tjipe Karuuombe.


19:42 – GOAL! Liberia 3-0 Namibia. The Lone Stars ensure that they will claim all three points in Monrovia, as Edward Ledlum nets in the 81st minute.


19h39 – Mozambique 1-2 Guinea: Os Mambas are looking to snatch a late equalizing goal with 10 minutes left.


19h20 – GOAL! Mozambique 1-2 Guinea: Abdoul Karim Traore is enjoying a dream debut as the teenager grabs his second goal of the match after being set up by Antoine Conte on the hour-mark.


19:15 – GOAL! Somalia 0-3 Algeria. The Fennec Foxes add to their lead in Oran, with Mohamed Amoura netting his second of the game.


19:14 – GOAL! Botswana 0-1 Uganda. The Cranes claim the lead in Francistown, with Jude Ssemugabi heading home from a corner kick.


18h14 – Mozambique 1-1 Guinea: Os Mambas are pushing for their second goal of the match as pass the 55th-minute park in Maputo.


19:04 – Back underway in the second half in Oran for Somalia 0-2 Algeria; in Monrovia for Liberia 2-0 Namibia; and in Francistown for Botswana 0-0 Uganda.


18h49 – Half-time in Maputo: Mozambique and Guinea are locked at 1-1 at the interval, with the runner-up spot up for grabs in Group G.


18:49 – Half time in Francistown, Botswana 0-0 Uganda. A stalemate thus far, but the Cranes are staying in second place in Group G as things stand.


18:49 – Half time in Monrovia, Liberia 2-0 Namibia. The Lone Stars are in control of their Group H clash and set to go just a point behind their second-placed opponents.


18:48 – Half time in Oran, Somalia 0-2 Algeria. The Fennec Foxes are well on course to seal World Cup qualification thanks to goals from Mohamed Amoura and Riyad Mahrez.


18h20 – GOAL! Mozambique 1-1 Guinea: Reinildo Mandava’s grabs his fifth goal for Os Mambas in the 19th minute after being set up by Geny Catamo.


18:20 – GOAL! Somalia 0-2 Algeria. The North Africans are firmly in control in Oman, as Riyad Mahrez doubles their advantage in the 20th minute.


18:11 – GOAL! Liberia 2-0 Namibia. The hosts in Monrovia double their advantage, with Mamadu Bah striking in the ninth minute.


18:07 – GOAL! Somalia 0-1 Algeria. The Fennec Foxes needed less than six minutes to claim the lead, with Mohamed Amoura scoring from Riyad Mahrez’s assist.


18:06 – GOAL! Liberia 1-0 Namibia. The Lone Stars lead in Monrovia, with Ayouba Kosiah striking early in the game.


18h02 – GOAL! Mozambique 0-1 Guinea: 18-year-old Abdoul Karim Traore scores on his debut to hand Syli National the lead in the second minute, with Ousmane Camara providing the assist.


18h00 – Mozambique 0-0 Guinea: The Group G match is underway at the Estádio do Zimpeto in Maputo.


18h00 – The early evening focuses on Group G, with all eyes on Algeria’s ‘away’ match against Somalia at the Miloud Hafedi Stadium in Oran. A win for the Fennec Foxes will see them secure a return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014.


Elsewhere in the group, the likely battle for second place between Uganda and Mozambique (who are level on points) sees the former away to Botswana at the Obed Itani Chilumi Stadium in Francistown, while the latter host Guinea at Estadio do Zimpeto in Maputo.


Also being played in this early-evening block is a Group H match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sport Complex in Monrovia, as Liberia host Namibia – a key clash in the battle for second place behind group winners Tunisia.


Another Group H between Malawi and Equatorial Guinea was scheduled for this time at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, but has been postponed.
