Zamalek head coach Yannick Ferreira is convinced his team can challenge for the Egyptian Premiership title this season despite off-field issues plaguing the club.
The White Knights are winless in their last three games after being held to a 1-1 draw by Ghazl El Mahallah on October 4 which sees them locked in a three-way tie with Al Masry and Al Ahly at the top of the table.
However, there have been reports of player unrest due to financial difficulties, while Ferreira’s squad is currently training at the Military Academy Stadium in Cairo after a proposal to move back to their base fell through.
Ferreira insists the 14-time Egyptian champions are working hard to resolve the problems and has faith in his players to deliver success in 2025-26.
“When you are at a club like Zamalek, you must win titles,” the Belgian said. “We have 18 points now, but we should have 21. The team still has the ability to finish the league in the top-two positions.
“We have to deal with the problems off the pitch, and we can finish in the top two and participate in the Champions League next season.
“The club is actively working to solve the problems we face, including the lack of a proper gym beside the training pitch. The plan was to train for a few months outside the club’s stadium and then move to the club’s branch in 6th of October, but Zamalek’s land was withdrawn.”
Commenting on the rumoured player revolt, he added: “I did not speak to the players about boycotting matches because of the financial crisis. There are also false reports about parting ways with Abdelhamid Maali in January; such news negatively impacts the club.”
