Al Ahly advanced to the group stage, but Orlando Pirates bowed out during Saturday’s CAF inter-club second preliminary round second-leg matches.

A 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso’s Aigle Noir, courtesy of Omar Kamal’s second-half goal in Egypt, earned Egyptian football powerhouse Al Ahly a 2-0 aggregate win in the Champions League.

However, there was an upset in South Africa as Pirates lost 5-4 on penalties to FC Saint Eloi Lupopo of DR Congo following a 3-3 draw on aggregate, with the former winning 3-0 in regulation time on the day.

In the Confederation Cup, Algerian giants USM Alger advanced after defeating Ivorian side AFAD 3-0, winning the tie 3-1 on aggregate after losing 1-0 in the first leg in the Ivory Coast.

The action is set to continue on Sunday, with two first-leg matches taking place as Pyramids and RS Berkane target first-leg advantages after meeting in the CAF Super Cup last weekend.

Pyramids are set to continue their defence of the Champions League by taking on Ethiopian Insurance in Addis Ababa, while Berkane will take on Al-Ahly Tripoli in Libya.

In Tunisia, Esperance de Tunis will carry a 1-0 aggregate lead into their clash with Rahimo of Burkina Faso and MC Alger will be banking on the home ground advantage after drawing 1-1 with Cameroon’s Colombe in the first-leg.

In the Confederation Cup, Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa and Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel will also bank on home ground advantage when they take on DR Congo’s AS Simba and Nairobi United, respectively.
