Magesi hoping to claim Pirates' scalp once more

Four teams will battle it out in midweek to see who joins Richards Bay and Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout semi-finals.

Defending champions Magesi will be hoping history repeats itself when they face Orlando Pirates in the third quarter-final at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

Dikwena tsa Meetse felled the Buccaneers at the same venue in the round of 16 last year which started their fairytale run to the final as debutants in the Premier League.

John Maduka’s side kicked off their title defence with a 3-2 victory over AmaZulu in the opening round on October 5 before beating TS Galaxy 2-1 in the league a fortnight later.

The Sea Robbers edged Siwelele 1-0 to set up a rematch with Magesi and they will be seeking a morale-booster after crashing out of the CAF Champions League following a 5-4 defeat to Saint-Eloi Lupopo on penalties on Saturday.

Then on Wednesday, 2024 champions Stellenbosch will look to keep their CKO title challenge alive when they lock horns with Marumo Gallants at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium.

The Maroons will be buoyed by their 4-1 win over 15 de Agosto on Sunday which saw them advance to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

Steve Barker’s side dug deep to eliminate Kaizer Chiefs in the previous round, having been reduced to 10 men but still held on for a 1-0 victory. Meanwhile, Gallants caused the upset of the last 16 when they defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 7-6 in a shootout after a 0-0 draw.
