Orlando Pirates were the big winners during this weekend’s Betway Premiership action as AmaZulu FC dropped points in the provincial derby.
AmaZulu suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Richards Bay in the KwaZulu-Natal Derby at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Friday as coach Arthur Zwane’s side were humbled.
Moses Mthembu and Man of the Match Wandile Ngema netted for the Natal Rich Boys, who moved up to the ninth spot in the standings, while AmaZulu remain fifth.
Meanwhile, in-form Evidence Makgopa made it two goals in as many matches before Patrick Maswanganyi sealed Pirates’ 2-0 victory over eighth-placed Durban City, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
The influential Relebohile Mofokeng, who provided the assist for Makgopa’s goal, was named Man of the Match after helping the Buccaneers open a three-point lead at the top of the standings.
Two matches failed to produce goals on Saturday, with Polokwane City being held to a 0-0 draw by TS Galaxy at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, where goalkeeper Ira Eliezer Tapé was named Man of the Match.
At the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, Siwelele FC drew 0-0 with a rock-bottom Chippa United, whose defender Sirgio Kammies scooped the Man of the Match award after the game.
The last match of the weekend saw Marumo Gallants and Magesi FC share the spoils after drawing 1-1 at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, where Jaisen Clifford cancelled out Kgomotso Mosadi’s opener.
Gallants will now turn their attention to the Carling Knockout final against Orlando Pirates at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on December 6.
