The Federação Angolana de Futebol (FAF) has announced the nation’s final squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, opting for a dynamic, new-look team.
Angola have been drawn in group B with FIFA World Cup qualified Egypt and South Africa, along with Zimbabwe.
Coach Patrice Beaumelle named 28 players in his final squad, with the omission of some big names.
Bastos (54 caps), Gilberto (22 caps) and Andrade of Porto’s second side were excluded from the tournament.
Gelson Dala, Zito Luvumbo, Mbala Nzola, Mabululu and Randy Nteka will lead the team’s front line as it attempts to take on South Africa and Egypt’s strong defences.
The team’s backline will be held down by Clinton Mata, David Carmo, Núrio Fortuna, Gaspar and Buatu who bring a robust quality to the national side.
The Black Sable Antelopes’ preparations will be held in Portugal from 8–18 December, where the side will play warm-up games against the Democratic Republic of the Congo on 13 December and Mozambique on 16 December.
Angola has never reached the tournament’s semi-finals, being knocked out in the quarterfinals in 2008, 2010 and the last edition in Cote d’Ivoire.
This year, the Black Sable Antelope will be looking to go a step further.
