Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan expects his team to go far in the 2026 World Cup after fortune smiled on them in Friday’s draw.
The Pharaohs are set to make only their fourth appearance at the global showpiece and their first since 2018 after failing to qualify for the 2022 edition.
Hassan’s side were placed in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand, which should give them a good chance of reaching the round of 16 at least.
Hassan believes he has the tools at his disposal to make an impact in Canada, Mexico and the United States next year, but was quick to point out that none of their opponents should be underestimated.
“We have big ambitions to go far in the 2026 World Cup and achieve our goals. We will take it step by step,” he said after the draw in Washington, DC.
“We are ready and will do our utmost to secure the best possible results in the World Cup and perform impressively in the biggest event in the world.
“We have great players with the desire, along with the coaching staff, to achieve outstanding results in the tournament.
“Belgium is a big team, and so is Iran. There are no easy games at the World Cup, as we’re playing at a high level against top-ranked teams.”
