Morocco confirmed its place in the quarterfinals of the Arab Cup on Monday with a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia in Doha, Qatar, while the Comoros’ campaign came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Oman.

The Atlas Lions finished the group stage of the tournament atop Group B with seven points, having claimed two wins and one draw.

Comoros has struggled at the second edition of the tournament, losing all three of its games and heading home with zero points.

Morocco struck early against Saudi Arabia, netting in the 11th minute through Karim El Berkaoui.

Saudi Arabia had a chance to strike back from the penalty spot in the second half, but Abdullah Al Hamdan’s panenka attempt could not find the target, travelling over the bar.

Against the Comoros, Oman struck twice in quick succession in the second half, heading into the break with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Issam Al Sabhi in the 30th and 43rd minutes.

Nassuir Hamidou pulled one back for the African nation in the 68th minute with a spectacular solo effort, but the Comoros could not capitalise on its late chances, ending with another loss.

Egypt could confirm its place as the second African team in the knockout stages as it sits second in Group C and face top placed Jordan in its final group game on Tuesday.

Algeria could follow suit, also sitting second in its group behind Iraq. A draw for the African side against Iraq on Tuesday would prove enough to see its journey at the tournament continue.

Morocco is set to face Syria in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
