Mohamed Salah has been excluded from Liverpool’s travelling squad for its Champions League clash against Inter Milan at the San Siro in Milan on Tuesday.
The Egyptian international returned to Liverpool’s training ground on Sunday, according to the Athletic, following his explosive interview after the Reds 3-3 Draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.
The outburst followed Salah being benched by manager Arne Slot for Liverpool’s last three fixtures, with the forward claiming he was a scapegoat for the club’s recent struggles and that “someone doesn’t want me in the club”.
The club sits 10th on the Premier League table and has won only three of its last 10 games along with two draws and five losses.
Slott spoke on Salah’s outburst in a press conference on Monday, saying the player’s comments came as a surprise to him.
“I have to guess a little bit. Is it because he doesn’t play? Is it about me not playing him? What could I do differently? Playing him. Maybe that is not the reason he thinks and feels this way,” said Slott.
“He has the right to feel what he feels but he doesn’t have the right to share it with the media. He does, but then it is up to us to react on it.”
While speculation circulates about whether there could be a way back for Salah at Liverpool, Slott believes he could still appear for the Reds this season.
“I’m a firm believer there’s always a possibility to return for a player,” he said.
With the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the January transfer window fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether or not Salah will stay at the club.
