Morocco and Wydad AC winger Hakim Ziyech has been dealt a blow as he missed his side’s emphatic victory at the weekend due to injury.

The Red Devils claimed an emphatic victory in the Botola Pro 1 on Sunday, coming from two goals behind to defeat Union Touarga 4-3 at the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

Ziyech was unable to play at the weekend due to an apparent hamstring injury picked up in Wydad’s 2-1 loss to AS FAR last Thursday.

The 32-year-old netted the equaliser for his side in the 28th minute before being substituted off due to discomfort in the 58th minute.

While it is unclear how long the former Chelsea and Ajax star will be out for, the injury does not bode well for the winger’s chances of making Morocco’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ziyech was a key member of the Atlas Lions’ 2022 World Cup campaign which saw them become the first African nation to reach the semi-finals. Since then, he has struggled with injury and last played for his nation September 2024.

He will be hoping to be back fit and healthy as the countdown to the tournament begins.
