Bidvest Wits

Nickname:
The Clever Boys
Founded:
1921

Roger De Sa’s Bidvest Wits finally managed to finish in the top half of the PSL in 2008/09 after two bitterly disappointing seasons since their return to the top flight in 2006.

The Clever Boys blew hot and cold, struggling to find consistency, but a strong end to the campaign pushed them up to sixth place and they will be delighted to compete in the MTN8.
They have made some canny signings to beef up their predominantly young squad, with the capture of Mark Haskins – who played for Moroka Swallows in last year’s MTN8 – a particularly noteworthy addition.
Bidvest Wits, formerly known as Wits University, have a decent pedigree in the top eight cup: they have reached five finals and won the competition twice.

Their first triumph was back in 1984 when they beat Swallows 4-3 on aggregate, and 11 years later they shocked Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 to claim the trophy for a second time.
