Kumasi Asante Kotoko is one of the biggest and most successful football clubs in Africa having won the Africa Champions League title twice.
The Porcupine Warriors, who were formed in 1935,are regarded by many as the team with the biggest support base in Ghana as they have won the country's league title 21 times.
Kotoko saw their best years in from the late1960s until the late 1999 when their arch rivals Hearts of Oak took over the dominated the local scene.
The Kumasi side have won several trophies including eight Ghana FA Cups.
The club's home ground is the 40,000 all-seater Kumasi Sports Stadium.
According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, an international organization recognized by FIFA, Asante Kotoko was Africa's best club of the 20th century.
Some of Ghana football legends made their nameswith the Kumasi-based side. Goalkeeper Robert Mensah, former African player of the Year Ibrahim Sunday, Osei Kofi, Malik Jabir, Papa Arko and Opoku Ntiwere all key players in the past.
Despite their huge impact on the local and international scene in the past, the Porcupines Warriors have struggled to make an impact in recent times.
They finished third in last season's league and they fired their Serbian coach Bogdan Korak.
Kotoko will be counting on Ivorian striker Ahmed Toure, Daniel Nii Adjei, Prince Anokye, Albert Bruce and Prince Boateng to help them win the title from Berekum Chelsea.
