Heart of Lions

Nickname:
Giant Killers
Founded:
2002

Heart of Lions are one of the exciting teams in the Ghana Premier League and have recorded some famous successes against giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The
club was founded in 2002 by business mogul Victor Kwame Ahiakpor to
give meaning to football in the Volta Region of Ghana and caused an
upset in their debut season when they eclipsed Kotoko at Kpando.

They
have churned out some great performances in the past but seem to be
struggling in recent times after placing fourth in the 2004 and 2005
season.

Dutchman
Hans Vander Plyum quit his post as head coach with just 13 days to the
commencement of the new Premier league campaign but they have re-engaged
former coach Paa Kwesi Fabian on a short-term basis.

They
continue to produce great talents after they nurtured Dominic Adiyiah,
Eric Bekoe, Jonathan Quartey, Sadat Bukari, John Boye, Jerry Akaminko,
Addoquaye Addo and Emmanuel Banahene.

Other notable names include Emmanuel Ansong, Haminu Draman, Jacob Nettey, Edmund Owusu Ansah and William Amamoo.

Striker
Gilbert Fiamenyo and enforcer Bright Nsiah renewed their contracts
ahead of the start of the season and will help them push for a top-fur
finish this season.

The
club failed to sign top-notch players and will count on the youthful
exuberance of the perceived second-rated players from the second–tier
leagues to help their course.
