Kano Pillars have swept into the African Champions League this year on the back of an upset win over defending champions Al Ahli of Egypt in the last of the preliminary knockout rounds.

The club’s success in the Nigerian premier league at the end of the 2007.2008 came in the back of the expertise of former Ghana national coach Malik Jabir.

Since the club have hired Slovenian coach Ivo van Sajh-Scheich to assist their bid to win the Champions League. The league triumph in 2008 is Pillars’ only major triumph and came with a one point advantage over Heartland FC.

The club were promoted to the premier league at the end of 2001 and finished third in their first year in the top flight in 2002. They were fourth in the Nigerian league in 2004.

They were unable to successfully retain their title at the end of the 2008/2009 campaign, finishing seventh in the standings.
