Founded:: 1979

Maritzburg United are making their return to the MTN Top 8 Cup competition having participated in tournament during the 2015/16 season.

The Team of Choice qualified for this season's competition after finishing seventh in the Absa Premiership during the 2016/17 campaign.

In their last participation in the MTN Top 8 Cup, United were defeated by Kaizer Chiefs in an exciting quarter-final clash in Johannesburg in 2015.

The match ended in a 3-3 stalemate in regulation time, but Siyanda Xulu and Hendrick Ekstein scored in extra-time to hand Chiefs a 5-3 victory.

The Team of Choice have never won the MTN Top 8 Cup and they will be hoping to make history by winning it for the first time during the 2017/18 season.
