Free State Stars

Nickname:: Ea Lla Koto

Founded:: 1977

Free State Stars looked like potential relegation candidates at one stage during the 2008/09 PSL season, but the arrival of Steve Khompela turned their fortunes around.

Ea Lla Koto beefed up their defensive play and it provided the platform for them to shoot up the table, with the club eventually ending a highly creditable fourth and securing a place in the MTN8 for a second successive time.
However, Khompela has since departed to take up the vacant post at Platinum Stars, leaving his former co-coach Themba Sithole to take up the challenge.

Stars have retained much of the side that served them well last season, so the pressure will be on the stand-in to produce results from the get go.
Last year, Ea Lla Koto were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Mamelodi Sundowns. The Free State club don’t have a great record in this competition, with a runners-up finish in 1996 (when still named Qwa Qwa Stars) their best result.
