Sao Tome e Principe are one of the real minnow nations competing in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and are not expected to get past the first round.
The country has a population of just some 190 000 people, making it a wonder at all that they can put together a squad to compete in international football.
The country first entered the Nations Cup qualifiers in 2000, and have since withdrawn from the preliminaries in 2004 and 2010. They did not enter at all in 2008 and 2012.
The team is coached by Gustave Clement Nyoumba and play their home games at the Estádio Nacional 12 de Julho in Sao Tome.
