It was always going to tough for Benin in Group B at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations as they faced up to the might of Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria and a very good Mali side.
In the end they finished as the group's whipping boys, unable to secure a point and scoring just one goal in their three matches.
They fell 1-0 to a Fredi Kanoute penalty in their opener against Mali, before being taught a footballing lesson by the Ivorians, who triumphed 4-1.
Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Aruna Dindane and Kader Keïta scored for The Elephants, while Razak Omotoyossi scored a late consolation for Benin.
Their final game against Nigeria would provide nothing more than a chance to redeem some pride, but after holding the Super Eagles scorelessfor 53 minutes, John Obi Mikel made the breakthrough and Yakubu added a second late on.
