Drawn in what is arguably the group of death, Germany will be looking to better their runners-up position at the last European Championships where they lost out to Spain in the final.
The first hurdle to climb will be making it out of the tough Group B which includes Portugal, Denmark, and fellow tournament favourites the Netherlands.
Germany is the most successful European Championship side – they have won the tournament on three occasions.
Under the tutelage of Joachim Low as head coach, after the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the Germans have managed to at least finish inside the top three in each of their previous two major international tournaments.
Out of the last five European Championships, Germany have managed three appearances in the final. Expectation is high in Germany after a perfect record in the qualifying stages where they finished top of their group.
This youthful team has been hailed by German legend Franz Beckenbauer as the best German national team of any generation due to their strength and attacking flair.
The hopes of a successful tournament will lie on players such as Mario Gotze, Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez and Mesut Ozil just to mention a few.
