The team has never qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Burundi under a new coach Wilfried Rainer will look to go a step further after their recent appearance in the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.
Burundi who stopped Tanzania 3-0 in a recent International friendly in Dar es salaam will face Botswana in their first test in the preliminary round of the qualifiers.
The team will look to skipper Selemani Ndikumana and Fuadi Ndayisenga.
The team might however miss the services of Faty Papy who is out who picked a long term injured while featuring for Bidvest Wits in the ABSA Premier league.
