Created in 2007 and first hosted in 2009 in Côte d’Ivoire, the African Nations Championship exclusively features local players.

The local Cameroonian national team did not make it for this first edition’s finals, but qualified two years later for the next tournament hosted by Sudan.

Cameroon ended on top of their Group C in 2011, ahead of DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali with three wins and not a single goal conceded.

But they had to leave the competition in the quarter finals, beaten by Angola in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw against the Palancas Negras.

In order to stamp their ticket for the 2014 edition to be hosted early next year in South Africa, the local Indomitable Lions are facing Gabon in their first round of qualifiers in the Central zone.
Under the guidance of Coach Emmanuel Ndoumbé Bosso, they will host the Panthers in the first leg in Yaoundé before travelling to Libreville.
