Djoliba Athletic Club hail from Bamako, Mali, and were runners-up in the 2012 Confederation Cup after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Congo’s AC Leopards.
That near miss was as close as Djoliba have come to glory in African club competition, though they have been regular participants in the Champions League and other competitions through the years.
‘Djoliba’, which is the name of the Niger River in the local Bambara language, was formed in 1960 and has won the Malien Premiere Division a record 22 times, putting them ahead of rivals Stade Malien and Real Bamako.
