Sao

1962

1964

Ranked as one of Africa’s and world football’s weakest national teams, Chad have never qualified for either the FIFA World Cup or the CAF Africa Cup of Nations. In fact they only entered the qualifying competition for the World Cup prior to the 2002 tournament.

The national team is nicknamed ‘Sao’ and plays their home games at the Stade Nacional in N’Djamena. It has a 30,000 seat capacity.

Chad’s coach is Egyptian Sherif El-Khashab and he has a predominantly locally-based team to work with, as Chad have very few players based in foreign leagues, particularly Europe.

The Chad Premier League features the 12 top teams in the country. The reigning champions are Elect Sport N’Djamena. The most successful team in the league’s history (it was founded in 1988) is Renaissance FC, with six titles. FC Tourbillon and Elect Sport have four apiece.
