Kaizer Chiefs

Nickname:
Amakhosi
Founded:
1970

Kaizer Chefs got as far as the semifinals of the 2013 Telkom Knockout before they were defeated by eventual champions Platinum Stars.

Having just won the MTN8, coach Stuart Baxter and his team will enter the 2014 TKO in a very confident mood.

Formed in 1970 by Kaizer Motaung and a group who split away from Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, Chiefs are unquestionably the most successful club in South African soccer history.

The moniker 'Chiefs' is taken from the now defunct American side the Atlanta Chiefs, who Motaung played for in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the 1960s.

Amakhosi have been amongst the top performing teams in the Telkom Knockout era, winning it in 2007, 2009/10 and 2010/11.

They will again be amongst the favourites for the trophy this season.
