Jwaneng Galaxy Football Club are one of the youngest football clubs in the beMOBILE Premiership.
The club was only established in July, 2014, when two lower division sides from a town called Jwaneng, Blue Diamonds and Jwaneng Comets merged. Diamonds were campaigning in the Third Division, while Comets were a First Division side.
Jwaneng had no club in the beMOBILE Premiership at that stage. One of the main objectives behind the merging of the two clubs was to improve the standard of football in the mining town. Njabulo Gilika, who was previously the President of Jwaneng Comets FC, was elected as the first Jwaneng Galaxy FC Chairman.
The club signed top players from the beMOBILE Premiership ahead of the 2014/15 Debswana First Division South season. Botswana international midfielder Boitumelo Mafoko, seasoned defender Musa Ohilwe and experienced midfielder Thebe Maiketso joined the club from Botswana Defence Force (BDF) XI, Extension Gunners and BDF XI respectively.
Having assembled a formidable side Galaxy head coach Boyo Radipotsane's mandate was to deliver the Debswana First Division South title. The former Botswana national under-20 coach and Galaxy team managed to meet the club management's expectations as they won lifted the title, and won automatic promotion to the beMOBILE Premiership.
Galaxy once again beefed up their squad with some quality players, who had beMOBILE Premiership experience ahead of their maiden season in the country's elite league. Their top signings were former BDF XI defender Moreetsi Mosimanyana, midfielder Gilbert Baruti from Police XU as well as ex-Gaborone United striker Tebogo Sembowa.
The Jwaneng side will continue to use Galaxy Stadium as their home ground during the 2015/16 beMOBILE Premiership campaign. Botswana senior national team assistant coach Radipotsane has been retained as the club's head coach, while the ever dependable Mafoko will be captaining the team.
