Ghana are one of the most successful teams on the continent, but have not won the Africa Cup if Nations since 1982, a 27-year wait that that Black Stars fans will feel is far too long.
They were hoping to build on the success of a first-ever showing at the World Cup finals when they reached the second round at Germany 2006 with a victory on home soil at the 2008 Nations Cup, but had to make do with third-place instead.
With a team that is built around Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, Ghana are a formidable opponent and will expect to book a pace at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac has continued the good work of his predecessor Claude LeRoy and will be hopeful he will get use from mercurial skipper Stephen Appiah, who has been clubless since June 2008 and has a serious fitness cloud hanging over the rest of his career.
Ghana won the first Nations Cup finals theyr qualified for, the 1963 tournament on home soil, and followed that up with success two years later in 1965 in Tunisia.
They added two more titles in 1978 and 1982, and also won the Bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
