Ghana have won the Africa Cup of Nations four times but last lifted the trophy at the 1984 finals hosted by Libya.

The Black Stars, despite enthralling displays at two FIFA World Cup finals in 2006 and 2010, have failed to replicate them in continental championships.

At the 1992 and 2010 finals hosted by Senegal and Angola, Ghana settled for silver losing in the finals to Ivory Coast and Egypt respectively.

But Ghana have reached the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup since hosting the tournament in 2008.

The country’s trophy-drought has been extended to the newly-introduced African Nations Championship (CHAN) which is restricted to home based players.

They have been losing finalists twice in three editions with the latest being the 2013 tournament in South Africa where they lost on penalties to Libya.

The local Black Stars were beaten in the inaugural tournament held in Cote d'Ivoire in 2009 but suffered a first round elimination in Sudan 2011.

Ghana will be making her third consecutive appearance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil this June.
