Guinea had an up-and-down time at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, winning just one of their four matches, but making the quarterfinals, which probably qualify their tournament as a success.
Their Group A opener ended in defeat as they lost 2-1 to hosts Ghana, but were just seconds away from an unlikely point.
Asamoah Gyan gave the Black Stars the lead, but Oumar Kalabane equalised just past the hour-mark for Guinea. It looked as though they would get the draw, until Sulley Muntari broke their hearts with a 90th minute goal.
Skipper Pascal Feindouno (two, one penalty) and Ismaël Bangoura scored as Guinea beat Morocco 3-2 in their next pool match, following that up with a 1-1 draw with Namibia, Souleymane Youla getting the goal.
That result booked a place in the quarterfinals for the side, but there they came up against a rampant Cote d'Ivoire side and were thumped 5-0. The Ivorians were always in control as Salomon Kalou netted a brace, to go with goals from Didier Drogba, Kader Keita and Bakari Koné.
