Guinea, known by the nickname Syli Nationale (National Elephant), will be making their debut at the African Nations Championship in the 2016 edition. Guinea defeated Liberia 4-2 on aggregate and edged Senegal on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw in Zone West A of the preliminaries, securing their ticket to Rwanda 2016. The will be led by coach Kanfory Lappé Bangoura. The Syli Nationale have appeared in 11 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments (with their best showing a runners-up finish in 1976) and they have yet to qualify for the World Cup finals.
