Kenya have made five previous appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations, but have never been passed the first round of the competition.
Coached by the German Antoine Hey, the national team have performed admirably of late despite deep-seated disputes in the running of the game in the country, as well as problems between clubs and the technical team of the Harambee Stars.
Briefly barred by FIFA for government interference in the running of the game, they are now back in the fold and would dearly love to earn a repeat of their 2004 appearance at the Nations cup in Tunisia.
Hey was a journeyman midfielder as a player, plying his trade in Switzerland, Germany, England, Austria and Cyprus. He has also coach extensively on the African continent in recent years, leading the national sides of Lesotho, Gambia, Liberia and now Kenya.
Veteran central defender Musa Otieno, who has been deployed as a defensive midfielder of late, is the key man, as well as Parma midfielder McDonald Mariga and Auxerre striker Dennis Oliech.
