Liberia are looking to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for just the third time, having featured in the tournament in 1996 and 2002. On both occasions they failed to make it past the group stage.

They failed to qualify for the 2013 edition of the competition as they were eliminated in the second round of the qualifying stage, losing 8-3 to Nigeria on aggregate.

The Lone Stars are currently coached by former Liberian international midfielder Frank Jericho Gnabe, while Mamelodi Sundowns forward Anthony Laffor is their captain.

Other notable players in their current squad are forwards Patrick Wleh and Francis Forkey Doe and Zah Rahan Krangar, who all ply their trade in the Malaysian Premier League.
