Despite a rich production line of talented players, The Flames have not enjoyed any success in Africa Nations Cup competition.
Malawi have strangely only qualified to the Africa Cup finals twice but on both occasions exited in the preliminary stages.
They made their tournament debut at the 1984 finals in Cote d'Ivoire where they finished bottom of Group B and picked up just one point.
Malawi picked up their first and only African Cup win at the 2010 tournament in Angola where they finished bottom of Group A on three points after a promising start with a shock 3-0 win over Algeria.
