Egypt will be appearing at their seventh FIFA Under-20 World Cup when they take part in Colombia this year.
The Young Pharaohs qualified thanks to their third-place finish at the 2011 African Youth Championships held in South Africa.
Their first appearance at the global event was in 1981, when they also recorded one of their best-ever results, beating eventual champions West Germany 2-1 and reaching the quarterfinals before losing out to England.
There followed a group stage exit in 1991, before they recorded their best-ever finish in the competition in 2001, when they finished third with the likes of Mohamed Shawky and Hossam Ghaly in their side.
They were thrashed 7-1 by Argentina in the group stages, but went on to beat the USA and Holland in the knockout rounds, before losing to fellow Africans Ghana in the semifinals. They collected the bronze medal with a win over Paraguay.
They qualified in 2003 and 2005, finishing in the Last 16 and group stages respectively, before they hosted the tournament the last time it was played in 2009, but also exited at the Last 16 mark.
The team is coached by Diaa El-Sayed and the more well-known players include defender Ayman Ashraf (Al Ahly) and midfielder Ahmed Tawfik (Zamalek).
