Mozambique will make their first appearance in the African Nations Championships in 2014, having missed out of the previous editions in 2009 and 2011.

The Mambas defeated Seychelles, Namibia and Angola to book their place for the main tournament in South Africa.

The team is coached by former Mozambique and Costa Do Sol defender João Chissano.

The 43-year-old has previously assembled a strong squad which includes experienced locally-based players like Miro, Momed Hagy, Chico, Josimar, Sonito, Telinho, Diogo Alberto and Reginaldo.
Tournament Review:
Mozambique failed to progress past the group stage as they finished at the bottom of Group A with zero points from their three matches.
The Mambas looked comfortable on the ball going forward and managed to score four goals in the tournament but their defensive frailties cost them points as they conceded nine times.
Diogo finished as their top goal scorer with two goals after finding the back of the net against South Africa and Nigeria, while the captain Dario Khan and Josemar were also on target for Joao Chissano’s side.
Khan’s long range freekick against Nigeria is likely to go down as one of the best goals of the tournament as his dipping shot left the goalkeeper with no chance.

While their squad included a number of experienced players, young players like Maninho, Belito and Mario Sinamunda played big roles and will walk away from the tournament with valuable international experience.
