Nigeria will be making their CHAN debut at the 2014 edition in South Africa.

They failed to qualify for the first two tournament finals in Cote d’Ivoire and Sudan.

They were eliminated by arch-rivals Ghana for the inaugural competition in Cote d’Ivoire in 2009 and next-door neigbours Niger shocked them out for the next tournament staged by Sudan.

They had to scrape past Cote d’Ivoire 4-3 on aggregate to make it to South Africa 2014.

They won the first game in Kaduna 4-1 courtesy of a brace from Sunday Mba and further goals from Gambo Mohammed and Ifeanyi Ede only to lose the return match 2-0 in Abidjan.

Several players who are in the country’s main squad are also still eligible for selection for this ‘B’ team as they still play their football at home.

They include Sunday Mba, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Chigozie Agbim, Gambo Mohammed and Benjamin Francis.

They are handled by Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi.
Tournament Review:
Nigeria finished third on their debut at the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.
After they won the Africa Cup of Nations also in South Africa last year, Nigeria were among the favourites to win this tournament reserved for players featuring in their local leagues.
The highlight for Nigeria will without a doubt be a stirring comeback against Morocco, who led 3-0 by half time only to lose 4-3 to the Super Eagles in the quarterfinal.
Enugu Rangers left winger Ejike Uzoenyi was picked as the MVP of the competition after he scored three goals and scooped three Man of the Match awards.
He along with Kano Pillars midfielder Rabiu Ali and Sunshine Stars defender Kunle Odunlami was also named in the CHAN best XI by CAF.
The Eagles also won the Fair Play Award and were the best attacking team after they fired a total of 13 goals.
They had started the competition rather slowly  when they lost their opening match 2-1 to Mali, but they returned to strong contention after they stopped Mozambique 4-2 in the second game, before they ousted hosts South Africa 3-1 in a final group game.
Then followed that sensational comeback against Morocco, before they fell 4-1 on penalties to arch-rivals Ghana in the semi-final in Bloemfontein.
They edged past Zimbabwe 1-0 to win the third-place match.
