The Nigeria national football team are known as the Super Eagles after variously named ‘Red Devils’ and ‘Green Eagles’.
They are handled by former international skipper Stephen Keshi after he took over from another ex-international Samson Siasia in November 2011.
The Eagles have won the Africa Cup of Nations thrice, in 1980, 1994 and 2013.They have also finished as runners-up on four other occasions –1984, 1988, 1990 and 2000.
They have also appeared at the FIFA World Cup four times, reaching the Round of 16 on their debut appearance in 1994 and 1998, while they crashed out in the group stage in 2002 and 2010.
They equally featured at the FIFA Confederations Cup twice, in 1995, when it was then known as the King Fahd Cup, and in 2013.They placed fourth in 1995, but crashed out in the group stage in 2013.
