Known by the nickname ‘Leone Stars’, Sierra Leone have never appeared in a FIFA World Cup but have twice qualified for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

The West Africans participated in the tournament finals in 1994 and 1996, exiting in the first round on both occasions.

Sierra Leone’s attempt to qualify for the 2013 AFCON ended in heartbreak as they were beaten in the final round on away goals by North African giants Tunisia after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

The Leone Stars are coached by Northern Irish coach Johnny McKinstry, who took charge of the team in late 2013.
