The Buccaneers
Founded:
1937

South African side Orlando Pirates return to the group phase of the CAF Champions League for the first time since 2006, when they lost out to CS Sfaxien in the semifinals of the competition.

The club are a former African champions after their unlikely success in 1995 when they beat Asec Abidjan in the final, their only continental success to date. They are also the only South African side to have claimed the continent’s top prize.

They are currently coached by Roger de Sa, whose position has come under threat after a poor first half of 2013 will see them end the season without silverware, bringing to an end a remarkable run of success that saw the club claim six domestic trophies in the last two years.
