Orlando Pirates boast a rich pedigree in the MTN8, having claimed the trophy nine times (1972, 1974, 1978, 1983, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2010 and 2011) from 14 appearances in the final.
The Buccaneers were the very first winners of the Top Eight Cup, defeating arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 in the 1972 final.
In the MTN8 era of the competition (2008 onwards) they have had impressive success, claiming the trophy in 2010 and 2011, while they were runners-up last year after a heart-breaking penalty shootout defeat to Platinum Stars in the final.
Pirates’ nine Top Eight trophies puts them second on the honours board behind Chiefs (14 titles).
