Tunisia have a proud recent history in global and African competition, having reached the last three instalments of the FIFA World Cup.
They have been to four finals tournaments in all, creating history in 1978 when they became the first team from Africa to win a World Cup match, beating Mexico 3-1.
They also held defending champions West Germany to a 0-0 draw that year, but bowed out in the first round, as they have done in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
The Carthage Eagles have also been to every Nations Cup finals since 1994, winning the 2004 event on home soil after disappointments in 1996 and 1965 when they finished as runners-up.
They have reached the quarterfinals of the last two tournaments in Egypt and Ghana, and will perhaps be disappointed they have not been able to get beyond that stage given the talent available.
The current side is coached by Portuguese national Humberto Coelho, who played for Paris St Germain and Benfica in a star-studded career that also included 63 caps for his national side.
He is an experienced manager at national team level, having coach Portugal, taking them to the semifinals of Euro 2000, South Korea, Morocco and now Tunisia.
