Currently ranked 165th on the FIFA World rankings, Somalia is another former war-torn African country who have struggled to make their mark on the football field. In fact, their best ever ranking is just below the teams current position, at 158th.
For many years, Somalia did not even enter the World or African Cup qualifiers, and when they did, failed to ever reach the finals. Known as the Lions of Africa, Somalias first ever international was back in 1960, when they lost 9-2 to Cameroon.
In the 2010 World and African qualifiers, Somalia were forced to go into preliminary play-offs to enter the main draw, but they were unable to reach the main qualifiers, going down 1-0 to Djibouti.
Somalias international players are mostly based in the Somalian league, but there are a few players player for minor teams in Germany, Italy, Norway and Sweden.
The local league comprises of 11 clubs and has been in existence since 1967. Horseed, one of the few clubs outside the capital Mogadishu, have won the title the most number of times six.
