SuperSport United head into the 2009 MTN8 as one of the favourites to walk away with the R8-million prize money after successfully defending their league title last season.

Gavin Hunt’s side may not always play football that is easy on the eye, but they are incredibly tough to beat and have the resources to ‘win ugly’ if they need to.
The Pretoria side have beefed up their squad with the additions of Siyabonga Nkosi, Emille Baron and Jabu Maluleke amongst others, and they have retained the core of the team that has won two successive PSL championships.
Matsatsantsa have only won the top eight once, having reached the final three times in a row from 2004 to 2006 – a tournament record they share with ‘cup kings’ Kaizer Chiefs.

United’s only triumph came in 2004 when they defeated Chiefs 1-0 in the final, with Phil Evans scoring from the penalty spot.
