SuperSport United head into the 2010 MTN8 hoping to add a cup title to the three successive league championship they have claimed from 2008 to 2010. Gavin Hunt’s men have thrice proved to be the best, most consistent team in the land and that automatically makes them one of the favourites for the MTN8.
They have kept the core of the team together for the 2010/11 season though they could yet lose one or both of Bongani Khumalo and Morgan Gould, which could prove to be a major blow to their aspirations.
Veteran left-back Bradley Carnell has joined, as has talented young striker Kermit Erasmus who will hope to prove to Feyenoord that they should have retained his services in the Netherlands.
Nonetheless, Matsatsantsa will aim to at least better their showing in last year’s MTN8 when they were bundled out in the quarterfinals by AmaZulu. SuperSport have appeared in three Top Eight finals and won the tournament in 2004 when they famously beat then-league champions Kaizer Chiefs.
2009/10 league position: 1st 2009
MTN8: Quarterfinalists
Top Eight finals/titles: 3/1
